Billy (Bill) Dudley Nelson

Billy (Bill) Dudley Nelson, 81, passed away August 6, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. He was born September 26, 1942, to Raymond Dudley and Joyce Odell (Reeves) Nelson, in Paris, TX. Bill, or known as “Poppy” attended and graduated from Lubbock High School. He married Shelba Ann on January 5, 1964.

Poppy liked all sports, from bird hunting to NASCAR, and enjoyed a good horse ride. He umpired little league baseball in his younger days and coached 2 of his sons in baseball, Gary and Dale. Most of all, Poppy was a Christian at heart.

Poppy was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Joyce, a son Brent Nelson, his wife Shelba Ann, and a brother, Roger Nelson. Those remaining to cherish his memories are: his sons, Gary (Ginger) Nelson of McKinney, TX, Dale (Maria) Nelson of Houston, TX, Alan (Lori) Nelson of Lubbock, TX, and Dusty Nelson of Lubbock, TX; two granddaughters, Brittany (Hunter) Barker of Lubbock, TX, and Katelin Hobbs, of Lubbock; two great-grandchildren Bradlee and Elizabeth Barker; 1 brother,  5 sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
