Bonnie Popnoe

Bonnie Aileen Popnoe passed peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024. She was born at home on the family ranch in Kimble County, Texas, January 30, 1932, to Milton “Pete” Cosper and Edna “Ahmie” Cosper.

Bonnie graduated from Harper High School in 1948. She attended Texas Lutheran College for one year, then moved to Lamesa, Texas with a cousin and began working in a sewing factory that made military garments. She met Wayne Popnoe on a blind date and after a short courtship, eloped and married in Lovington, New Mexico March 30, 1951.

Early in their marriage they lived in the Hill Country where Wayne worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Later they returned to West Texas and began farming in Dawson County. They also ran Wayne Popnoe Trucking. After raising her family, she attended Medical Arts Nursing School and worked as a nurse until retirement. Bonnie was known for her love of reading and dancing. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Milton Willis Cosper and Edna Martha Anderegg Cosper, husband Wayne William Popnoe, husband’s parents James and Clara Popnoe, son Michael Wayne Popnoe, brother Kenneth Cosper, and brother-in-law Donald J. Harris.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Brown and husband Wesley; grandchildren, Darby Brown and wife Rissa, Robert Brown and wife Micaela, William Brown and wife Alyssa, Rebekah McLarty and husband Collin, son Jimmy Popnoe and wife Teresa, grandchildren Miranda Houser and husband Rob, and Haden Popnoe and wife Mackenzie.

Surviving great-grandchildren include Harper and Holden Houser, Grayson, Callen and Silas Popnoe, Rylee and husband Hunter Allemand, Caleb, Jude, and Catherine Brown, Roland, Addison, and Maeve Brown, Jocelyn, Saige, and Lincoln Brown, Isla-Rose and Maisie McLarty. Surviving great-great-grandchildren include Claire and Joseph Allemand. And two sisters-in-law Suzanne Cosper and Joyce Harris and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Family will be receiving friends from 5:00-7:00p.m. at the O’Donnell Funeral Home in O’Donnell, TX, on August 2, 2024. 

A funeral service will be held on August 3, 2024, at 2:00p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in O’Donnell, TX. Burial to follow at O'Donnell Cemetery.
