Burl Gene Deaver, 89, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 15, 2022. Burl was born on May 18, 1932, in Morton, Cochran County, Texas, to the late Burl Richard Deaver and Evelyn (Sadler) Deaver.
He grew up in the Morton area and graduated from Morton High School in 1949. After graduation from high school, Burl attended Lubbock Christian College (LCC).
Burl met the love of his life, Jamettie Jeter, and they were married on March 22, 1952, in the Chapel of Broadway Church of Christ, in Lubbock. Jamettie preceded him in death on July 7, 2020.
Burl was the owner and operator of Deaver and Vickery Company and worked as an electrical contractor. He retired from Deaver and Vickery Company in 1985. He loved to hunt and fish, woodworking, but most of all he adored his grandchildren, as he was very family oriented. Burl has been a member of Sunset Church of Christ for the past 64 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Debra Townley and her husband Bill of Lubbock; two sons, Ricky Deaver and his wife Melody of Pearland, and Nick Deaver and his wife Kathleen of Austin; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Earl, Jack and Bill Deaver, and one sister, Nancy Barnett.
A time of visitation for Burl will be on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 5 PM to 8 PM in the Oak Crest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in the auditorium of Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410. Monty Pettyjohn, pulpit minister of Sunset Church of Christ, will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Pallbearers will be Brian Deaver, Blake Townley, Brad Townley, Bill Townley, Scott Mahaney and Rocky Alburtis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations, in Burl's memory, be made to the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI), at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
