Carl "Hand" Baird

November 29, 1948 — June 9, 2025

Silverton

Carl Dean Baird, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Carl was born to Silas Baird and Martha Blackwell in Silverton, Texas where he was deeply rooted in family and tradition. He carried with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and love throughout his life and eventually showed the world these traits when he married the love of his life, Patricia Arriaga. Together they build a home full of warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together they raised a family that became his greatest pride and joy in life. Carl was a dedicated father and grandfather, never missing a moment to create something special with those he loved.

Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war, a time that shaped his profound strength and resilience. After his service, Carl worked at the Texas Department of Corrections, where he had a role as building boss, field worker, and kennel handler. He found love in the simplest of things the Earth had to offer, the stillness of a quiet morning fishing and the thrill of the hunt. Throughout all of this, his most treasured times were when he was with his cousin, Jerry, where they would have countless adventures and lifelong memories, also giving him his iconic nickname, Hand. To know Carl was to know a man who would do anything for his family. His presence was steady, humor sharp, and his heart full of love. He will be remembered not just for the life he lived, but the impact he had on those all around him with the love he gave so freely.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Arriaga; stepsons, Patrick (Ashley) Arriaga of Lubbock and Trey Lucero of Petersburg; grandchildren, Landen (Lexi) Baird of Meadow, Coy Baird of Brownfield, Brittany Arriaga of Lubbock, Dallas Arriaga of Lubbock, and Presley Arriaga of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Krystal; and great grandchildren, Colt and Dally Baird.

He is preceded in death by his son, Russ Baird, and daughter, Carrie Baird, of Silverton and grandson, Ryan Baird.
