Carl Leon Wilburn

Carl Leon Wilburn went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 1, 2013 at the age of 88.  He was born February 27, 1925 in Oilton, Oklahoma to Richard Carlile Wilburn and Anna Elizabeth (Dublin) Wilburn. 

Carl grew up near Drumright, Oklahoma and attended school in Drumright. Carl married Eva Baker on December 6, 1942 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. 

Carl pursued oil field work in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas and settled in Eunice, New Mexico in 1959. He retired at age 62 as a field supervisor for Texaco oil company of Eunice, New Mexico. During his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, bird hunting and traveling to all games played by his grandsons. He also enjoyed visiting family and fishing in Oklahoma.  

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Eunice, New Mexico and served many years as Deacon. He moved to Lubbock in 2010.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Eva of Lubbock; son, Jim Wilburn and wife Sherry of Lubbock; daughter, Kay Akin and husband Bob of Eunice, NM; brother, Bill Wilburn of Ardmore, OK; sister, Juanita Ritchey of Hillsboro, Oregon; four grandchildren, Lex Ann Hood, Clay Wilburn, Cord Wilburn, and Kari Reynolds; and six great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cleddie, R.C., J.T. and Jack Wilburn; and two sisters, Dorothy Owen and Geneive Reese.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with services beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
