Carlene “Memaw” Marie Harper (Kunkel), beloved wife of the late George David Harper passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on January 2, 1934; and graduated from Dimmit ISD in 1951 after attending Crosbyton ISD, where she showcased her spirit as a cheerleader. After pursuing her passion for nursing, Carlene graduated from Lubbock School Vocational Nursing and dedicated 11 years of her life to Covenant Hospital CCU.
 
On December 20, 1958, she married her devoted husband, George David Harper, who preceded her in death on April 18, 2014. Carlene's marriage to George was a testament to love and commitment.

Carlene is preceded in death by parents, Werner and Era Kunkel, Sisters, Edna Belle Hatch, Emma Lee Horne, Betty Anne Barnette. Son, Mark Alan Harper. Grandson, Jerrod Kiel Harper. Survived by her Daughter Julie Anne Harper, Grandchildren Derek and Sisilee Beach, Josh and Christa Curry, Holly Harper, Courtney Belle Harper, Hunter and Rebecka Harper, Great Grandkids Tayten and Calvin Beach, Carli Faith Curry, Chandler, Veronica, and Elijah Harper

 
Her life was marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering spirit that touched all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Carlene's kindness and gentle nature left a lasting impact on the lives she encountered. Her famous spicy words “You’re gonna miss me when I’m dead and gone!”
 
Reflecting on the life of Carlene Marie Harper and commemorating her legacy, funeral services and ceremonies will be held to honor her memory at 2:00PM, Friday, March 22, 2024, at Combest Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock; burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery. Timeless in our hearts, Carlene will forever be remembered for her grace and the love she shared with her family and friends. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
