Carolyn Ann Birdwell

Carolyn Ann Birdwell, 78, of Lubbock, and loving wife of Jacob E. Birdwell and mother to Melinda and Tammie Birdwell, was lifted into heaven on Friday, August 8, 2025. Carolyn was born on December 30, 1946, in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas, to the late Marvin Morgan Simmons and Doyle Sibyl (Bingham) Simmons.

Carolyn attended O’Donnell schools and graduated in 1964 from O’Donnell High School.

She met the love of her life, Jacob E. Birdwell, and they were united in marriage on January 3,1964, in Tahoka, moving to Lubbock in 1965.

Carolyn was an avid reader, and loved to cook, especially her pound cake and peanut brittle. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband loved to travel in their fifth wheel, and had traveled all over Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Western Texas. They also traveled to Yellowstone National Park and the Black Hills of South Dakota. Carolyn has been a long-time member of Southcrest Baptist Church.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her husband, Jacob of Lubbock; two daughters, Melinda Birdwell and Tammie Birdwell of Lubbock; one brother, Ronnie Simmons of Brownfield; and one sister, Jimmie Hudson and husband Otis of Brownwood.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in the O’Donnell Cemetery, in O’Donnell, Texas. Services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
