Cathy Sue vonBerg On September 23, 2025, surrounded by her family’s love, Cathy Sue vonBerg went home to be with the Lord at the age of 65. Born December 4, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas, to Marilyn Janice Davis and Ted Thompson, Cathy was a true West Texan through and through.
On February 8, 1985, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Mark S. vonBerg. Together, they built a strong and loving home, sharing over 40 years of laughter, hard work, and cherished family moments.Cathy had a remarkable gift for showing up for the people she loved.
For four decades, she worked as a bookkeeper for Bingo Express, where she became more than just a familiar face—she was a steady, dependable friend to many.
Her greatest pride, however, was her family. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children and grandchildren, whether from the bleachers or the sidelines, always their biggest fan.
She was passionate about sports and found joy in rooting for her favorite teams—Texas Tech, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seattle Seahawks. When she wasn’t at a game, she loved playing Bingo and spending time with the people who made her happiest.
Cathy will be remembered for her strength, her no-nonsense honesty, and above all, her big, giving heart. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Mark; her children, Brandy Young of Lubbock, Eric vonBerg and his wife Whitney of Smyer, and Lauren vonBerg of Lubbock; her four grandchildren, who were the light of her life; and her brother, Michael Thompson and his wife Mitzi of Lubbock. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents and her sister, Tracie Stabler.
Cathy’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and unwavering support. To know her was to be loved fiercely, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share life with her.
