Charles James Fremont of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born in Carson City, Nevada, on June 4, 1942, to Norman N. and Emaline Velma (Wall) (d. 1947) Fremont. After Emaline’s passing, Norman married LaRue (Paul) Fremont, and together, they raised Charles.

Charles was a very loving and devoted family man. On July 30, 1966, Charles married the love of his life, Sherian (Tom), and they celebrated over 57 years of marriage together.

Charles is survived by his wife, their three children, Michael Fremont, Charles Fremont, Jr and wife Shaena, and Leslie Fremont-McClelland; six grandchildren, Brittany Fremont, Christopher Eustace, Kevin McClelland, Taryn Fremont, Emily Fremont, and Ryan McClelland; and one great-granddaughter, Harmony McClelland.

He was very proud of his American Indian heritage, being half Omaha Indian and half Choctaw Indian. He was a member of the Omaha Nation, and his Omaha Indian name was Xetha’ska, which means White Eagle.

He attended Lubbock High School, where he loved playing football, until he joined the Navy in 1961. He faithfully served in the Navy until 1966. He was very proud of his time in the military and was always happy to share stories of his time on the carriers and his experiences during his service to his country.

In the Navy, he learned how to drive trucks, which led to a career of over 50 years, as a truck driver. He worked for different companies throughout the years, but his most notable jobs were with Flemming, and later Walmart, from where he eventually retired in 2017. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his job.

Charles loved watching sports, and in his free time, you would find him cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Chiefs, and of course, Texas Tech.

He was always very kind to anyone he came across. He cherished his family and was always there for them when needed. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Charles is also survived by his siblings, Norma Fremont, Mary (Paxton) Rautis, Madeline Fremont, Rex (Mary) Fremont, and Patricia (Victor) Miramontes, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman, Emaline, and LaRue, and sister, Denise Sanchez.
