Charles Edwin Newton

Charles Edwin Newton, 85, long-time resident of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, August 30, 2025. Charles was born on July 6, 1940 in Paris, Texas to the late Oscar Newton and Melva (Thompson) Newton.

After graduating from Whiteface High School and South Plains College, he married the love of his life, Cora Ann Newton, on May 26, 1961, in Denver City, Texas.

Charles was a computer programmer, working most recently for Electronic Data Systems before retiring in the late 2000s. He enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, and a good hot cup of coffee with his devoted dog Trixie in his lap.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory include his three sons, Keith Newton and his wife Donna of Lubbock, James Newton and his wife Jamie of Fulshear, Texas, and Michael Newton and his wife Cristina of Lubbock; two brothers, Jerry Newton of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Steve Newton of Justin, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sandoval, Colby Newton, and Anthony Newton; one great-grandchild, Jackson Sandoval. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Melva Newton, his beloved wife Cora, and his brother Bill Newton.

A time of reflection and visitation for Mr. Newton will be Wednesday, September 10 from 10 AM to 11 AM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM in the same location. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Colby Newton, Anthony Newton, Jackson Sandoval, Bruce Bullick, Jackie Drake, and Edwin Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Charles’s name to The Haven Animal Care Shelter (havenacs.org).
