Charles Robins

Charles Robins, 97, of Lubbock, passed away Wednesday morning, December 22, 2021. He was born to the late Charles Taylor Robins, Sr. and Ida Mae Robins on May 18, 1924, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

He met the love of his life, Addie Jane Gryder, and they were married in 1949 in Texas. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2004.

Mr. Robins attended and graduated from Uvalde High School. He joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged, serving during World War II, and served a second tour of duty following that. He attended Texas Tech University, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1945. Mr. Robins worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Sun Oil Company for many years prior to retirement. He also worked for, and retired from, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

He was an avid Texas Tech fan and supporter of athletic endeavors, traveling with Tech's various sports teams. He loved tennis and sports in general.

Survivors include his two sons, Nolan Robins of Florissant, Colorado and Wayne Robins of Little Elm, Texas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years.

Visitation for Mr. Robins will be Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 2 PM to 8 PM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, and again on Thursday December 30, 2021, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Funeral services will begin at 2 PM on Thursday, December 20, 2021, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Doug Hensley will be the officiant for the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Charles' memory to the Texas Tech University Athletics Department, 2508 6th Street, 2nd Floor, Lubbock, TX 79409.
