Charles Wayne "Charlie" Riley, born on April 17, 1947, in Pampa, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Lubbock at the age of 78, surrounded by his family. At the age of nine, the family moved to Lubbock where he attended school. Charlie recognized early on he enjoyed working instead of going to school! He spent a number of years at Carillon before retiring. Charlie was a unique blend of strength and tenderness, perceived by many as possessing a tough exterior. Yet, those who truly knew him recognized the gentle soul that lay beneath—a teddy bear. Full of warmth and wit, he was well-known for his friendly nature, often engaging others with his playful pranks and amusing t-shirts.
His love for family knew no bounds. He cherished his siblings, Clarica Ellis of Lubbock, Cora (George) Riley of Mississippi, Roberta (James) Thomas of Florida, and Debbra (Michael) Weed of Texas. He extended this love to his two adopted grandchildren, Savannah and Senna Ellis, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who brightened his life and brought him immeasurable joy.
Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wesley and Doris Riley, Sr., as well as two of his siblings, Brenda Riley and Wesley Riley, Jr.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 1, 2026, with the family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 pm at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway. Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, March 2, 2026 at New Testament Baptist Church with burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
