Weatherford, Texas

Cheri Slayton, beloved mother, cherished friend, and dedicated student, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, following a short illness. Born Cheri Hamerman on September 27, 1975, in Weatherford, Texas, she lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and a joyful spirit.

Cheri was known for her cheerful disposition and infectious sense of humor, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. Her happy and hardworking nature was evident throughout her life, as she balanced her responsibilities while pursuing higher education. She worked diligently for Gray Cleaning while attending college, demonstrating determination and resilience at every turn.

An accomplished learner, Cheri earned her Associate’s degree in Art and was actively working towards completing her Bachelor’s degree. Her passion for creativity extended beyond academics into her personal interests as well. She was an avid writer, and although she left behind an unfinished book, this testament to her imaginative mind speaks volumes about her love for storytelling. Photography and tennis also brought her much joy, providing balance and enrichment in her life.

Cheri’s family was central to her, and she found great happiness in her role as a mother. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Emma Medlin of Lubbock, Texas, and her son, Tyler Hyatt of Weatherford, Texas, who were the lights of her life and source of immense pride.

Though she was known to be a terrible cook—a fact she acknowledged with good humor—it was her genuine warmth, generosity, and laughter that truly nourished those around her. Cheri’s legacy is one of love, effort, and an unwavering spirit, all tempered with a delightful sense of humor.

The community mourns the loss of a remarkable woman whose easy smile and kind heart left a lasting impression. Cheri Slayton’s enduring spirit and the memories she created will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
