Christi Hadley

October 25, 1977 — June 4, 2026

Lubbock

Christi Linn Hadley—wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend—passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. She was 48 years old, and after battling with her health for over 15 years, she finally found relief and rest in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Christi was born in Lubbock, Texas on October 25th, 1977, to Bruce and Janelle Thornton. Throughout her life, she pursued and accomplished many wonderful things. On March 14th, 1997, she married her high school sweetheart, Matthew Hadley, who loved her dearly and embodied the definition of the phrase, “for better or worse, in sickness and in health,” throughout their marriage. In 1999, Christi obtained a B.A. in Children’s Ministry from Lubbock Christian University. She was also incredibly proud of her two children, Hannah and Caleb.

Christi was a servant at heart, and she was always looking for places to give of her time and her effort. Most recently, Christi served the LCU Associates as Treasurer and Vice President of Membership, and she served on the Women’s Committee at Sunset Church of Christ. The LCU Associates raise funds and distribute grants for unbudgeted items across many LCU departments. Christi’s contributions and dedication to the Associates were immeasurable and invaluable, and her impact there will last more than a lifetime. As a member of the Women’s Committee, she helped plan events, provide supplies, and give overall support for their endeavors.

More important than her worldly accomplishments are Christi’s enduring personal and spiritual traits that impacted everyone she interacted with. It is impossible to summarize her in a few words, but some words stand out more than others. She was selfless, always searching for ways to bless others, whether that was through a bouquet of flowers in a difficult time, or by being a sounding board for her friends’ ideas. She was dedicated, always able to make her creative ideas and plans into reality; she never failed to see what was possible and then make it happen. She was welcoming and hospitable to everyone, and she gave every space she entered warmth and care. She was so many things—patient, genuine, earnest, loving—but none of those things are the complete picture of Christi.

Above all other traits, Christi was a woman of God. She exhibited extraordinary perseverance and faith, even through all her trials. She never wavered in her belief that God is good, that God is here, and that God is better than anything this world has to offer. Her faith was and is an inspiration to all who knew her.

Christi is survived by her husband, Matthew Hadley; her children, Hannah and Caleb Hadley; her mother, Janelle Thornton; her siblings, Stacey Zube and her husband Rob, and Derek Thornton; her brother-in-law and his wife, Mark and Beth Hadley; her sister-in-law Sarah Contreras; and her niece and nephews, Nate and Luke Zube, Grayson and Cora Hadley, and Jude and Rocky Contreras.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Sunset Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the LCU Associates, 5601 19th St, 79407 or on their website: https://associates-of-lcu.square.site/
