Christopher Ybarra, a beloved member of the Lubbock community and a dedicated food services assistant manager at University Medical Center Cafeteria, passed away peacefully at his home on June 22, 2025. Born on October 7, 1970, in Lubbock, Texas, Christopher lived a life filled with passion, service, and an unwavering love for his family.
Educated at Frenship High School, Christopher garnered not only academic knowledge but also lifelong friendships that would accompany him throughout his journey. His career as a food service assistant manager was not merely a job, but a vocation where he found joy in serving others and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all who entered the cafeteria. It stood as one of his proudest accomplishments, reflecting his commitment to service and teamwork.
Christopher had a spirited enthusiasm for sports, particularly when it came to his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. His love for these teams was matched only by the vibrant bonds he formed with those around him, as he shared cheering moments and camaraderie with friends and family alike.
He leaves behind a nurturing and loving family, including his siblings: John Moreno, Joe Ybarra, Maria Gonzales (Edward), Eva Reyes (Adam), and Christina Ybarra (Mitze). Christopher is also survived by his half-siblings: Gilbert Ybarra (Silvia), Simon Ybarra, and Gracie Ybarra. He cherished the memories created with his host of nieces and nephews, who were dear to his heart.
Christopher is preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents Simon and Margarette Ybarra. He was also saddened by the loss of his brother Steven Ybarra and half-brother Richard Ybarra, whose memories remain imbued in the hearts of all who knew him.
In celebration of Christopher’s life, a visitation will be held at Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock on July 11, 2025, from 10:30 AM until 8:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on July 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM, concluding at 2:00 PM, providing family and friends a space to honor his remarkable legacy and the love he shared.
Christopher Ybarra will be remembered not only for his illustrious career and his commitment to his community but also for the deep affection he held for his family and friends. May his spirit continue to inspire and uplift those who were lucky enough to have known him, as he takes his place among the stars, leaving a trail of cherished memories scattered across the hearts of many.
