Cruz Covarrubio

Cruz Jesus Covarrubio, 67, of Lubbock, TX, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 17, 2023. Cruz was born on June 7, 1955, in Lubbock, TX, to Victoria Covarrubio and the late Jessie Covarrubio.

Cruz grew up in Lubbock, TX, and attended Estacado High School. He met Esmeralda in January of 1999, and they were married on January 23, 2020, in Lubbock, TX.

Cruz spent his working years being self-employed and worked in landscaping and construction. He recently retired in 2017 at the age of 62. He loved to dance, to fish, watch the Cowboys, and play pool. Cruz was an outgoing man who loved spending time with his family and friends. Cruz was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a Cursillista.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Esmeralda Covarrubio; children, Jessie “Jr” Covarrubio (Heather), Britney Cortez, Tina Garcia (Gabriel), Ernest Ibarra (Anna), Norma Sanchez (Johnny), Jonathan Ibarra (Pauline), Samantha Ibarra, and Stacey Ramirez (Ralph); his mother, Victoria Covarrubio; brothers, Lupe Covarrubio, Danny Covarrubio, Mike Covarrubio, Ray Covarrubio, and Ray Covarrubio Jr.; sisters, Emma Lara, Virginia Garcia, Elvira Reyna, Christella Sanchez, and Valerie Reyes; and eighteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Jessie Covarrubio and his daughter, Cassandra Covarrubio.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 1:00pm to 8:00pm, with the rosary being recited at 6:00pm. A visitation will be held in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 10:00am, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Ibarra, Jonathan Ibarra, Zachariah Sanchez, Lupe Covarrubio, Mike Covarrubio, and Ray Covarrubio. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Covarrubio and Zayden Gonzalez.
