Deborah Ann Slater

Deborah Ann Slater, of Lubbock, received her glorious, transformed body on April 15, 2024, at 71 years of age.   She was welcomed into her heavenly home by her Lord Jesus, the angels and her momma and daddy and a host of extended family.

A very precious little baby girl, Deborah was born to Arthur W. (Bill) Slater and Evelyn Mueller Slater on August 19, 1952, at Muleshoe, Texas. Deborah lived in the Three Way Community with her family before moving with her family to the Slide Community in Lubbock County.  Deborah was baptized at 9 years old and a member of Woodrow Baptist Church where she loved Sunday School and GA’s.  She was a member of the Blue Bird Organization at the trainable school she attended through Lubbock Independent School District.

Deborah attended Cooper Elementary School – Lubbock ISD Trainable School for seven years before being transferred to the Abilene State School to live pending the opening of the Lubbock State School in 1969.  Deborah was a loved member of the Lubbock State School family for 55 years.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Evelyn Slater; a brother, Michael Slater; her grandparents, E. R. & Allie Slater and Albert & Clara Ellis.

Survivors include brothers, Charles (Letricia) Slater of Fort Stockton, Texas and Sandy Slater of Electric City, Washington; sister, Mary (Michael) Tibbit of Lubbock, Texas; sister-in-law, Sherry Slater of Temple, Texas.  Nieces and nephews include Bethany Chapman, Brandon Slater, LaChrisa Slater, Dusten (Kate) Slater, Trey Tibbit, Trent Tibbit and Mitch (Lauren) Tibbit.

Visitation for Deborah will be from 12 PM to 2 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in the Chapel of the Lubbock State Supported Living Center, with funeral services to follow at 2 PM.   Chaplain Wayne Moore will be the officiant.  Following services, Deborah will be taken to her eternal resting place at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

The pallbearers will be Trey Tibbit, Trent Tibbit, Mitch Tibbit and Michael Tibbit.

The family is especially thankful to the staff and administration at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center for the many years of love and care they provided to Deborah…thank you.  

 In lieu of flowers, please give to the Chapel Renovation Fund at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center, c/o Volunteer Service Council, 3401 N. University Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79415.
