Delores Kay Wilkinson, beloved mother, Me-Mom and friend passed peacefully from this life into her eternal home on February 3, 2026.
Born on November 18, 1943, in Cimarron County, Oklahoma, to Juanita Lucille Massengale and Henry Newton Ivy, Delores (later shortened to Dee) found her true calling early: being a Mom. But she wasn't just any homemaker; she was a spiritual warrior with a pen. Her children now treasure the many journals she left behind—written in a beautiful, flowing hand—filled with decades of prayers and scriptures dedicated specifically to them. If you were in Dee’s inner circle, you weren't just loved; you were prayed over with precision.
As her kids reached an older school age, Dee followed them to high school. She spent a decade as a friendly face, first, in the high school cafeteria and later as a teacher’s aide for Seminole High School. She had a handful of other jobs on her journey till finally settling in Abilene and serving as the secretary for the ministers of Hillcrest Church of Christ for 13 years before retiring in 2008. But that did not slow her down, as she continued to serve both her kids, grandkids and her church family. And she enjoyed making things special and just right for everyone.
She cherished following her grandkids and all of their activities. She loved Christmas. So much that she dedicated a whole room in her house for her Christmas trees and decorations. Dee had a competitive spirit, growing up playing volleyball in Crane, playing in bowling leagues in McPherson, finding a good game of “42” with friends, or playing rounds and rounds of Farkle.
Her most glowing attribute was her ability to find special friends to share life with wherever she lived. These friends strengthened her faith in Jesus, helped raise her kids, taught her a passion for birdwatching, learned to paint, drank cups of coffee, shared meals, and even shared grandkids.
Delores was proceeded in death by her parents, Henry and Juanita Ivy; her brothers, Allen Morris, Newt Ivy, and Jay Ivy, and her sister, Gale Rowlett. She is survived by her children, Vicki Brumley, of Lubbock; Shelli Starkey, and her husband, Jay Starkey, of Brownfield; Rob Wilkinson, and his wife, Keva Wilkinson, of Lubbock. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
