Donna Mae Timmer Blackwood was born to Frank and Helena (Leinen) Timmer on July 11, 1930 in Pipestone, MN. Her early years were spent in Woodstock, MN. Upon graduating from Pipestone High School she graduated from Abbott Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis, MN. In 1953 she moved to Galveston, TX to begin her nursing career. It is also where she met and married William Blackwood. They had 6 children. After marriage she lived in Minneapolis, MN, Oklahoma City, OK, Albuquerque, NM, and Lubbock, TX where she continued working as a nurse and earning her BS degree at Texas Tech. While she and Bill divorced Donna still assisted him as his health declined until his death in 2018. She is lovingly remembered by her children; Clay (Dana), David (Sharon), Wesley (Kim), Neal (Lisa) and Amy Blackwood, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and, 3 nieces; Rita Lear, Carol McElroy and Terri Hoy. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Bryce, brother Adolph Timmer and nephew Robert Timmer. Her greatest accomplishment would have been her association with and participation in Alcoholics Anonymous where she attended meetings, formed relationships and mentored countless associates along the way. She was very proud of her many ‘birthdays’ in AA as well she should have been. It wasn’t an easy task but she accomplished it. Additionally, Donna was a Meals on Wheels Volunteer and a Hospice volunteer. She was dearly loved and will be missed.
