Donna Carol Chilton Brock

Donna Carol Chilton Brock, affectionately known as Sugie by family and friends, died at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, on April 30, 2024. Her two sons, Paul and Nick, were by her side.

Sugie was born on April 5, 1956, in Hutchinson County, Texas, to Paul Louis Chilton and Ida Carol Adams Chilton. She was raised in Phillips, Texas where her father was a chemist at the Phillips Petroleum Refinery. She was active in the band and a member of the golf team at Phillips High School. Upon graduation in 1974, she attended Frank Phillips College and became a full-time homemaker and mother when her children were born.

A resident of the Panhandle, Texas community for 38 years, Sugie took great pride in her home and family which always included a beloved poodle.

Her sons fondly remember three freshly cooked meals served each day and weekly grocery shopping trips with Granny Carol. Friday nights were spent cheering for her boys playing football with the Panhandle Panthers. Summers and weekends her family could be found boating or fishing at Lake Meredith.   When her sons left home, Sugie turned her attention to perfecting her house and yard. She spent much of her time with her mother who remained her best friend throughout her life.  In recent years, Sugie enjoyed road trips with her sister. The pair visited various locales in the United States and multiple trips to Mexico. Her poodle, Thunder, was always by her side.

In addition to her parents, Sugie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Roy E. Chilton and Blanche Wittington Chilton, and maternal grandparents John Perry Adams and Pearl Lightfoot Adams.

She is survived by her two sons and their families: Robert Paul Brock and wife Dianna of Amarillo, Texas, and grandchildren, Ruby, Max, Henry, Sam, and Rose, and John Nicholas Brock and wife Heather of Eaton, Colorado, and grandchildren, J.D. (aka Hammer) and Lucy.  Her sister, Connie Gail Chilton of Houston, Texas, and brother, James Carl Chilton of Borger, Texas also survive her.

Sugie will be laid to rest next to her parents at Highland Park Cemetery in Borger, Texas. At her request, no services will be held.  In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Stroke Association in her honor.

Her sons wish to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Covenant Medical Center for the excellent and compassionate care they provided their mother.

“There is an endearing tenderness in the love of a mother to a son that transcends all other affections of the heart.” –Washington Irving
