Doris Grammer

Doris Grammer, 101, of Lubbock, and formerly of New Mexico, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday night, April 1, 2024.   Doris was born on June 6, 1922, in Mineola, Wood County, Texas, to the late Louis Miller and Nelle (Burleson) Miller.

She grew up in the East Texas town of Mineola, attending Mineola schools and graduating with the senior class of 1939.

Doris met the love of her life, Marcus Grammer.    They hopped a train in Mineola and went to Grand Saline, where they were united in marriage on October 23, 1942.   Mr. Grammer preceded her in death on May 8, 2004, and he was laid to rest in the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for 38 years, before retiring in 1988 as a switchboard trainer.  She loved to go bird watching, shopping, baking, travel and was faithful to the Lord by reading her bible every day.  She was a member of the Montgomery Boulevard Church of Christ in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include one sister, Eleanor Curtis of Tyler, Texas; two granddaughters:   Stephane Summers and husband Chris of Abilene, and Heather Horn and husband Russ of Lubbock; six great-grandchildren:  James Summers and wife Mercedes of Abilene, Rylee Reynolds and husband Sam of Lubbock, Avery Howard and husband Cash of Lubbock, Zane Horn of Lubbock, Norma-Jean Summers of Abilene and Daylen Leggett of Abilene; one great-great-grandchild, Brylynn Summers of Abilene.  Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Doris Jean Gray; two brothers:  Louis Miller, Jr. and Billy Jo Miller; one sister:  Gabriella Tutor.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.  A memorial service will be planned, and her cremains will be interred along with her husband in the Santa Fe National Cemetery later.
