Dovie Miller, born on August 20, 1923, in Shamrock, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by her beloved family at the age of 102. She grew up in Shamrock, graduating from Shamrock High School. It was there that she met and married Lionel Miller on December 1, 1948. The couple made their home in Lynn County several years later. Dovie devoted 17 years of her professional life to serving as the Chief Appraiser for Lynn County before retiring in 1998. Her meticulous nature and dedication to her work earned her respect from colleagues and friends alike. However, it was her life outside of work that truly defined her.
A talented quilter, Dovie found joy in creating beautiful pieces that adorned the lives of those around her. She spent many hours with her granddaughter Ashley mentoring her on the art of quilting. Dovie was an exceptional cook and found great joy preparing meals for her family and friends. After the passing of Lionel in 1990, Dovie cherished a new family tradition of shopping with her daughter every Saturday. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and faithful member of the Church of Christ, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She was an active participant at the Tahoka Senior Citizens, embracing community and friendship with open arms.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Connie Davis and her husband Tommy of Slaton, and Vink Miller and his wife Lynne of Lubbock; grandchildren: Adelle Davis; Kelly Hardy and husband Stephen, and their children, Grayson and Preslee; Ashley Nichols and husband Rob; Kristen Welborn and husband Chris and their children, Cooper and Kyler; and Kerbi Guinn and husband Cheyne.
Dovie is preceded in death by her husband, Lionel, in 1990, and her siblings; Ora Lee, Josephine, Victor, and JoAnn.
Visitation will be held at Combest Family Funeral Home in Tahoka beginning at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 pm.
