Elaine Mitchell

Elaine Mitchell of Lubbock passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born June 22, 1937, in Lubbock to Voyd Smith and Audry Campbell. Elaine graduated from Lubbock High School in 1955 and went on to graduate from Texas Tech College. She began her career at Lubbock National Bank, promoting her way up as the Vice President of New Accounts. During her time at the bank, she met and fell in love with Billy Mitchell. They were married on September 25, 1989, in Las Vegas. Elaine and Billy loved traveling, dancing and entertaining friends. They were active members of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where Elaine served on the finance committee and helped for many years at the annual church pumpkin patch.  

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 34 years, Billy; her children, Frank (Linda) Ward of San Antonio and Phyllis Carson of Austin; step-children, Suzanne Golden, Blake (Leanna) Mitchell and Barry (Shannon) Mitchell, all of Lubbock; twelve grandchildren: Tyler, Hunter, Caleb, Callie, Carissa, Jacob, Candace, Cassie, Devon, Maki, Gareth, and Gwendolin; as well as seven great-grandchildren. Elaine is also survived by her sister, Sandra Tolbert of San Antonio. 

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Douglas Ward; and one grandson, Dylan. 

A time to visit with the family will be held from 10:00 -11:00 am Friday, July 26, 2024, at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, July 26, 2024, at Resthaven Memorial Park.
