Elizabeth Rene Smith

Elizabeth Rene Smith, our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, surrounded by her daughters, her husband, and her son-in-law. She was deeply loved, and she will be missed more than words can express.

Born on July 29, 1950, in Warren, Ohio, she spent her younger years in San Francisco before a life filled with many places, adventures, and memories. Over the years, she lived in California, Florida, Las Vegas, the High Desert of California, Germany, Copperas Cove, Texas, and, ultimately, Roswell, New Mexico, where she spent the last two years of her life. She also had the opportunity to travel Europe, adding even more special memories to a life full of experiences.

She was a woman who found joy in the things that made a house feel like home. She loved crafting, and her craft room was filled with pictures of the people she loved most—her family. She could spend hours creating, remembering, and surrounding herself with the faces and memories that meant everything to her.

She especially loved the holidays. Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made during those special times together. She loved cooking holiday meals, decorating for every occasion, and creating a warm and welcoming home where family could gather. Those traditions, meals, decorations, and moments together will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

She also had a special love for her pets, who brought her companionship and happiness throughout her life.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Larry Wurdeman, and her children: Melissa Andree; Cheryl Graf (Gary); Rachael Saunders; and Rebecca Saunders (Johnny). She was a beloved grandmother to William Lind Jr., Samantha Lind, Sara Lind, Xander Lind, Aria Lind, Liam Lind, Cale Lind, Felipe Madrigal, Jonathon Madrigal, Kristy Ann Eastwood, Sabrina Clay, James Mitzner, Elizabeth Lewis, Sharon Graf, Nicole Graf, Donovan Frizzell, Zoe Frizzell, and Joleeanna Hair, and a cherished great-grandmother to her many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Lower and Joann Carey; her son, William Lind; and her brothers, Bobby Snyder, Jack Lower, and Michael Lower.

Though she is no longer with us, her love will remain in the family she cherished, in the traditions she created, in the photographs covering the walls of her craft room, in the holiday meals and decorations, and in the countless memories she gave to those around her.

She was surrounded by love at the end of her life, just as she had given love throughout it. Her family will carry her memory with them always.

She was loved. She is missed. And she will never be forgotten.
