Evangelina “Honey” Garza Canales (AKA Angie, Vangie, Honey, or mommy) 83, of Lubbock was born October 30, 1941, in Austin, Texas to Claudio Garza & Margarita (Gonzales) Garza. Honey was called home to be our forever Angel who left us peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother of five, grandmother to 18, great grandmother to 42, & great-great grandmother to nine.
Angie married Frank Canales on July 29, 1958, in Lubbock. In their early years of marriage, they loved taking the family camping off the Gulf and enjoyed fishing. One of their favorite spots we all recall going to - Ruidoso, New Mexico. We will definitely miss our adventures going to the casinos with our Honey; she also enjoyed attending the bike rallies around the New Mexico area. In her downtime she loved to read the Lubbock AJ, complete her word searches and her puzzles, just do not bother her till after 1pm when her “stories” were over, and dinner did not start till after Wheel of Fortune!
Angie (as most people called her) worked hard for many years at Texas Instruments till her retirement in 1995, afterwards she became a homemaker who loved to sew and make baby blankets for the new babies joining her family, she also had homemade tortillas ready for her “favorite” grandchildren (oh ok and her family) to enjoy!
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Virginia Galvan, Helen Samarripa, Frances Rodriguez, Annie Vasquez, Alfredo “Fred” Garza, Ramon Garza, Antonio “Tony” Garza, and Abel Garza; one son, Frank Canales Jr.; her beloved granddaughter, Jessica Louise Ramos; and the great grandbabies she gets to meet in heaven, Isaiah Rodriguez and Antonio Jose.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Frank Canales; daughters, Lydia Owens (CJ) of Albuquerque, Evangelina Ramos (David White), Virginia Canales and son, Casey Canales, Sr., all of Lubbock. She also leaves behind her sisters, Mary Garza and Oralia “Cookie” Garza; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends!
Services will be held to honor and celebrate Honey with a visitation to begin at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with services starting at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Though Honey’s physical presence may be gone, her spirit and the legacy of her love will remain with us forever.
