Floyd Gail Degraffenreid

March 29, 1945 — July 12, 2022

Floyd Gail DeGraffenreid, son of Floyd Z. and Emma Tarpley DeGraffenreid, of Spur, Texas, was born on March 29, 1945. He passed from this life on July 12, 2022 at his home. He was one of four children.  Floyd graduated from Spur High School and loved the rodeo. He furthered his education at Texas Tech University. He met and married Rita Gail Boring in 1971, and they had a daughter, Bobbi DeGraffenreid.  He sadly lost Rita in 1993.  Floyd later met and married Robbie Sexton and became beloved parent to her children Pennie (Sexton) McWhorter, Jimmy Sexton, and Carol (Sexton) Meriwether. Floyd lost his second love and spouse, Robbie, in 2012. He spent his most recent years with a dear companion, Chris Bowersox.

Floyd was a Journeyman Electrician for Lubbock Electric for many years and enjoyed a long career before his retirement.  He was an honest man, devout Christian and wonderful father. Floyd never met a stranger and loved new people, greatly enjoyed travel, and craved time with his family at Possum Kingdom Lake. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.  His presence will also be missed at the Lubbock Elk’s Lodge, Post #1348, at which he was an active member.

Floyd is survived by a daughter Bobbi DeGraffenreid, her daughter Emily Calderon, and great grandchildren; Pennie and Ken McWhorter and their children Jenni Rogers, Tyler Page, and Jarod Page and great grandchildren; Jimmy Sexton and his children Jensen Sexton, Keelen Sexton, and Addison Sexton and great grandchildren; and Carol and Paul Meriwether and their children Kate Zaylowski and Matthew Meriwether and great grandchildren. Floyd is also survived by his sister, Shirley (DeGraffenreid) Fisk and brother, Tommy DeGraffenreid, Chris Bowersox, her daughter Bobbi Rick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Z. and Emma DeGraffenreid, his sister, Nelle (DeGraffenreid) Barron, his first wife Rita Degraffenreid, 2nd wife Robbie DeGraffenreid, son-in-law Ramiro Calderon, and one great grandson, Zayden Aguilar.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Elk’s Lodge, 3409 Milwaukee Avenue, in Lubbock.  Cremation arrangements are under the personal care Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock.
