Glen Adkins

Glen Dee Adkins of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the age of 89.  He was born March 30, 1924 in Hamlin to Claude and Grace Adkins.  Glen graduated from Hamlin High School and joined the U.S. Air Force.  After honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, he worked as a Food Broker until retiring in 1990.  He married Joan Owens in November of 1947 and they made their home in Lubbock.  He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church where he was active in the Children’s Ministry as a Sunday School teacher for the 6th grade and preschool classes until the age of 83.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Joan; son, Dr. Jay Carl Adkins and wife Dee Dee of Lubbock; daughter, Dee Ann Curry and husband Eddy, of Abilene; brother, C. J. Adkins and wife Marion of Bellaire; sister, Hazel Adkins of Sunset Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Lovelle Owens of Lubbock; and grandchildren, Dr. Summer Ketron, Kamber Bailey and husband Kelvin, Dr. Camille Ketron, and Kade Curry and wife Jenni; and great-grandchildren, Colton, K’Dee, Evan Glen, Kaci, Addie, and Asher Jay.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sam Adkins; sisters, Koleta Hollins and Kathryn Shelburne; brother-in-law, Clyde Owens; and sister-in-law, Pauline Tippit.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Graveside services are scheduled for Noon on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.  Celebration of Life Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Oakwood Baptist Church Preschool Ministry, 6002 Avenue U, Lubbock, Texas 79410.
