Gordon Haugen

Gordon O. Haugen, 84, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in Levelland.

Gordon was born on March 29, 1938 in Alpena, South Dakota to Otto Augusta Haugen and Mildred Marie Heller Haugen.  He was raised in South Dakota and had worked in the water well industry.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and was an aviation specialist for the U.S. Navy for 23 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer E-7.  He celebrated over 50 years of sobriety recently and served as a drug and alcohol counselor during his military time.  He worked in the oil field industry after the military and lived in Smyer for many years.  He married Janie Merlene Snelgrove on October 4, 2016 in Lubbock.  He was a member of Living Life Church in Levelland.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 575 in Lubbock for many years.  He was a member of Alcoholic Anonymous in Lubbock.  He loved to hunt and fish, especially in Mississippi and Alabama, and loved spending time with his family.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Merlene Haugen of Smyer, son, Duwayne and Debbie Haugen, son, Steven and Christine Haugen, daughter, Mary Ann Lindsey, stepson, Fred and Ricki Caswell, stepdaughter, Patty and Don Tedder, stepdaughter, Donna and Gary Dockery, brother, Lawrence Haugen, sister, Ona Roberts, sister, Marvyl Ann and Keith Rank, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Joane Haugen, brother, Robert Haugen, and granddaughter, Misty Smith.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, in Lubbock.  Graveside services with military honors will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Smyer Cemetery in Smyer, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alcohol Anonymous.
