Guadalupe “Lupe” Contreras, 83, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Lupe was born on June 12, 1942, in Lubbock to the late Raymond Rangel and Francis (Acosta) Rangel.
She met the love of her life, Alfonso Contreras, and they were married in Lubbock, Texas on October 30, 1957. Alfonso preceded her in death on January 7, 2018.
Lupe cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, as well as with her brother Ruben and sisters Ester and Victoria. She found great joy in singing in the church choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a devoted member for more than 25 years. Lupe loved staying up late watching movies, listening to Elvis and enjoying her favorite Chuck Norris films, referring to him as her “Chucky Baby.”
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include four children: Janie Dominguez (Rene) of Lubbock, Alfonso Contreras, Jr. of Lubbock, Dora Prieto of Lubbock and Belen Cervantez (Edward) of Idalou; one brother, Efran Rangel (Corina) of Lubbock; two sisters: Ester Gutierrez (Ysidro) of Lubbock and Patsy Villagas (Joe) of Ft. Worth; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Lupe was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers: Ruben Rangel and Frank Rangel; two sisters: Maria Ramirez and Victoria Salazar; a grandson, Robby Prieto and a granddaughter, Rebecca Dominguez.
Visitation for Lupe will be held from 1 PM to 8 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Venue on Broadway, 2210 Broadway, next door to Combest Family Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM that same evening. Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 102 N. Avenue P in Lubbock, with Father Rene Perez as the Celebrant. Final rites and interment will be in the Idalou Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Steve Prieto, Michael Ray Dominguez, Adrian Contreras, Joe Contreras, Chief Petty Officer Edward Cervantez, Jr. (USN), Ace Torres and Brandon Cervantez.
