Services for Mr. Herbert H. Gast will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Ford Chapel in Lubbock, Texas with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  Herbert was born August 17, 1918 in Webster, South Dakota.  He was a World War II Army veteran earning the combat infantryman’s Badge in recognition of his courage, and ability as a soldier.  He served his country at Guadalcanal and the Solomon islands.  His occupations included farming, working for REA, and mineral mining.

Mr. Gast is survived by his wife of 68 years, a son Noel of Aberdeen, Washington, a daughter Judy Harms of Dexter, Michigan, and a son Keith of Lubbock, four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Laura Gast, two sisters, Irene and Evelyn, and a grandson Ellis.
