Hermando "John" Castillon

Hermando "John" Castillon, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026. Born on June 17, 1944, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Tomas Castillon and Inez Hernandez, John lived a life anchored by deep devotion to his family, a legendary work ethic, and a generous spirit that welcomed everyone into his home.

On March 31, 1963, John married the love of his life, Trina Rodriguez, in Tahoka, Texas. For 60 extraordinary years, the two were inseparable partners in building a warm, loving home. John supported Trina unconditionally in motherhood, ensuring that their house was always a sanctuary where children, family, and friends could gather together.

A man of great grit and character, John began working at an early age and carried that dedication throughout his life, officially retiring from farming in 2000. He taught his family the value of hard work not just through his words, but by living it every single day. A true jack-of-all-trades and a talented mechanic, John spent 20 years working on his beloved John Deere tractors, taking immense pride in fixing anything and everything that needed repair on the farm.

When he wasn't working, John cherished his time outdoors. You could often find him working in his garden, out fishing, or cheering proudly from the sidelines as he watched his children and grandchildren play sports. Family was his greatest passion; he treasured every single moment spent with his kids, grandchildren, and extended relatives. Known for his big heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his characteristic stubbornness, John left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

He is survived by his children: daughter Sandy Castillon, son Michael Castillon and wife Kayla, and daughter Nichole Gutierrez and husband Albert; sister Ernestina Zuniga; grandchildren Shelsi Moreno, Bradley Castillon, Brennon Castillon, Christian Aleman, Brayden Castillon, Jennifer Gutierrez, and Leticia Gutierrez; as well as 13 beloved great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Trina; sisters Isabel Villa, Amelia Mota, and Frances Rivera; and brothers Joe Castillon, Elias Castillon, and Walter Castillon.

A Viewing: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Combest Family Funeral Homes (1821 Main St., Tahoka, TX 79373).

A Funeral Service: Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church (1701 Ave. K, Tahoka, TX 79373). The Committal Service will follow immediately at Nevels Memorial Cemetery in Tahoka, TX.
