Hoycille Valentine July 25, 1942 – July 24, 2025
Hoycille Valentine, beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025—just one day shy of her 83rd birthday.
Born in Kermit, Texas, on July 25, 1942, Hoycille met the love of her life, Charles Owen Valentine, while attending Lubbock Christian College, and the two were married on January 26, 1963, in Kermit. They lived their entire 58-year marriage in Lubbock, Texas, where they put down deep roots and served their church and community.
Hoycille graduated with an associate degree from Lubbock Christian College in 1962. She worked as a secretary at the Lubbock Children’s Home and later in the Development Office at Lubbock Christian University. Additionally, she served as a property manager. Hoycille continued to promote LCU throughout her life and enjoyed attending the annual homecoming activities. She was a proud and honored member of the LCU Associates and was known for her management of their South Plains Fair Pie Booth for many years. She also relished her roles in the development of the latest version of their cookbook and various other service projects all devoted to fund-raising and supporting the efforts of the university.
Hoycille was a longtime member of Sunset Church of Christ, where she faithfully attended worship services, Bible classes, and her Life Group. She helped with countless bridal and baby showers and was known for bringing her famous cream puffs. Hoycille treasured a very special group of church friends that met for lunch monthly for many years.
Hoycille had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She enjoyed several lifelong friendships and kept up with the latest news of loved ones through neighborly visits, family gatherings, and regular correspondence. Remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions was a high priority. She was always ready to welcome family and friends to her home with freshly baked goodies. Her house continually featured decorations associated with the current season or holiday. Each December was spent producing various batches of Christmas candy including peanut patties, fudge, and peanut brittle. Her favorite holiday was, of course, Valentine’s Day.
Hoycille is survived by her children, Sharli Crawford and her husband, Nathan, of Plains, Texas, and Shyll Bowen and her husband, Edward, of Longmont, Colorado; and by her grandchildren: Castle Gillit and her husband, DJ, of Columbia, Tennessee; Crescent Lewis and her husband, Devin, of Dimmitt, Texas; Court Crawford and his wife, Shyanne, of Muleshoe, Texas; Brandon Bowen of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; Blaine Bowyer and his wife, Kelle, of Xi’an, China; and Brittany Thompson and her husband, Frazier, of Watertown, New York. She was affectionately known as “Grancille” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jareson and Jenson Gillit, Rylee and Raynee Lewis, Eloise Crawford, and Aspen and Frazier Thompson.
Hoycille was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyt and Jessie Montgomery; her sister, Donna Logsdon; and her beloved husband, Charles Valentine.
