Kevin Martin

April 25, 1963 — May 16, 2026

Lubbock

Kevin Martin of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the age of 63.  He was born April 25, 1963 in Lubbock to Jimmie and Maxine (Wales) Martin. Raised in the close-knit community of New Deal, Kevin graduated from New Deal High School in 1981. It was here, amidst the gentle rhythms of rural life, that he spent summers building fences alongside his father and brother. He had a passion for mechanics, specifically diesel mechanics—a discipline that suited his natural aptitude and unwavering attention to detail.

Kevin’s professional life was a testament to endurance and dedication. For 23 years, he diligently served as a delivery driver for FedEx. Upon retiring from this role, he embraced a new chapter as a conductor for BNSF Railroad, where for two decades he built life-long friendships. Kevin was a very hard worker. Beyond vocation, Kevin had the gift for mechanical artistry, whether it was building transmissions as a side business or restoring his (Baby) 1954 Chevy Pickup, a labor of love that culminated in the joy of presenting the vehicle at numerous car shows, admired by many who appreciated its meticulous revival. Kevin enjoyed traveling, opening horizons beyond home. Researching tranquil destinations to the roar of the Indy 500—possessing tickets to the event for over a decade, he valued discovering new adventures. Kevin loved trying new cuisines, experimenting with spices, ad developed his own recipe book with his favorite dishes. He was a diehard Texas Longhorn fan and enjoyed collecting WWII memorabilia. He also loved to sing (off key) and play "name that artist".

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of four years, Serena Martin; brother, Keno Martin and wife Leslie of New Deal; cherished grandson, Trent Cathey; bonus children, Duell Beaty of Lubbock and Shawnee Trevino and husband Daniel of Clyde and their three children; as well as adoring nephews and a niece—Caleb Martin and wife Sophie of Capitan, New Mexico, Jimmy Martin and wife Haley and their two children of Lubbock, and Allison Martin; his lifelong best friend, Howard Spence and wife LeAnn of Lubbock.
