Isabel Torres, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at her home in Lubbock at the age of 77. Born on January 4, 1948, in Yoakum, Texas, Isabel lived a life filled with passion, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her family. For many years, Isabel dedicated herself to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and various hospitals, where she worked in housekeeping, always ensuring that those she served were treated with care and respect. In 1989, she owned Copa Cabana Ballroom in Lubbock, a beloved establishment that became a cherished part of the community, until retiring in 2000.
Isabel was not only known for her strong work ethic but as an exceptional cook, she could transform simple ingredients into delightful meals that brought her family together around the table. Music was another of her passions, filling her home with melodies that echoed through celebrations and quiet moments alike. Above all, Isabel was a devoted mom, grandma and dog mom. Everyone knew her dogs were her "babies".
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Chris Ruiz and wife Heather, Jessica Martel and husband Chava, Matthew Torres, and Jackie Torres, all of Lubbock, and Lisa Solis and husband Danny of Denton. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride. Isabel is also survived by her siblings, Mary Keagy of Austin and David Salazar of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Simona Salazar, as well as her brothers, Felix, Tony, Armando, Fernando, Amador, and Johnny Salazar, and sister, Guadalupe Alonso.
