James Ray Fields

James Ray Fields, born February 1, 1959, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on February 5, 2026. He entered the gates of heaven ready to share an embrace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

James, better known as Jimmy, Jim, or PeePaw – our “Superman” – was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to the late Jack Curtis Fields and Ruth Jean (Craig) Fields. He was the seventh of ten children.

Jim met his wife, Kelley Lingle, in high school, and together they shared a loving marriage of 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Kelley Fields; his children: John “Dustin” Fields (Keeli Fulford), Kristopher “Bubba” Fields (partner Alyssa Marchuk and children Jaxon and Caroline), and Keeley Fields Brandon (spouse Cameron Brandon); and his cherished grandchildren, Taegan (fiance’ Averi Hill), Lexi, Autumn, Saint, and Scottie.

Jim also survived by his siblings: Dink Higginbotham, Donna Rinehart, Rose Donaldson (spouse Barry Donaldson), Greg Fields (spouse Ellen Fields), Linda Fields (SIL), and Mark Reble (BIL).

Jim was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold dear the stories and memories of their fun “Uncle Jimmy.”

Jim was not one to say, “I love you,” but anyone who knew him knew it deeply. He shared a lifetime of memories with Kelley – including a matching arm tattoo that symbolized their love. Jim loved entertaining, barbecuing, and playing the guitar. He loved life and was always the person to call if you needed something fixed, needed a ride, needed someone to share a beer with, or simply needed a friend.

Jim will be deeply missed but never forgotten. From his funny sayings and wild stunts to his quirky dances and his famous words, “Meemaw, what am I wearing today?” – his spirit lives on. Though he has gone before us, we have no doubt that when we meet again, it will be a celebration. In PeePaw’s words, BAMM!

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Venue on Broadway, next door to Combest Family Funeral Home. Reverend Jimmy Gilbreath, of Lubbock Baptist Temple, will be the officiant. Memorial Services and cremation arrangements were under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
