Lubbock

James Alton Robertson, lovingly known as Al, of Lubbock, TX, passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on September 12, 2025, at his home, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Al was born on May 25, 1964, in Lubbock, TX. From a young age, he was drawn to the beauty of God’s creation- farmland and animals. Al spent his entire career working the land he loved. Farming wasn’t just a job to him- it was a way of life. From sunup to sundown, he poured his heart into his fields. He continued his life's calling as a farm hand until later retiring. He remained deeply connected to the farming community and was always ready to lend a hand or offer seasoned advice.

Beyond the farm, Al was a man of warmth and quiet strength. He adored his family and found true joy in spending time with them. He had a natural gift for teaching and loved sharing his knowledge- whether it was cooking, or encouraging the hobbies of his daughter, nieces, and nephews. Al was always present, always supportive, and always proud to be a guiding hand in their lives.

Al was a gifted cook, was especially known for his tacos, which became a family favorite and a frequent request. He loved teaching others how to cook, passing down both his recipes and his love for sharing meals. He never stopped learning and was always eager to try new recipes, often surprising loved ones with something new and delicious.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 36 years, Amy Robertson and his cherished daughter, Angel Vasquez-Robertson both of Lubbock, TX. He also leaves behind his nephew, Clay Robertson, and Clay’s wife, Amy Robertson; his niece and nephew, Haileigh and Bruce.

Al is reunited in Heaven with his in-laws, Locadio and Amelia Vasquez; niece, Amy Vasquez; brother-in-law, Chito Vasquez and great-niece, Querissa Renteria.

A man of profound generosity and unwavering strength, Al chose to donate his body to science to help others better understand polycystic kidney disease- a condition he battled with grace and resilience. His dedication to continuing dialysis treatments for the past 20 years, despite its toll, was a testament to his deep love for his family and his selfless nature.

A memorial service will be held September 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.

Al will be remembered as a man of great faith, unmatched kindness, and enduring strength. He was a teacher, a helper, a protector, and will leave a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
