Janice Peterson

June 7, 1939 — November 9, 2023

Lubbock

Janice Peterson, 84, of Lubbock, and loving wife of Jack Peterson for the past 67 years, passed gently from this life, surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 9, 2023.  Janice was born on June 7, 1939, in Denver, Denver County, Colorado, to the late Maurice Stapp and Myrtle (Hambley) Stapp.

She met the love of her life, Jack Peterson, and they were united in marriage on April 5, 1956, in Spokane, Washington.  Out of this union, they were blessed with two sons, Jay and Jerry Peterson.

She was a devout Christian loving Jesus with her whole heart and soul.  She cared deeply for her family and friends, praying daily for their happiness and wellbeing.  She also prayed for others the same way she did for her family.  Her heart always went out to all people both near and far.  Janice would always take the time out to listen and to help in any way she could for anyone.

Janice was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), graduating from the Midland School of Nursing in December of 1975.  She worked for the American Cancer Society, and practiced nursing at Midland Memorial Hospital and worked for a private physician in Midland, before retiring in 1980.  She enjoyed oil painting and sculpting; however, her biggest enjoyment was related to anything in the medical field.   Throughout her whole life she continued to learn and study through any means she had access to.

Janice had many things to be proud of in her life, but she was most proud of her son’s and grandchildren.  She always instilled strong values into her family that continues today and have always served them well. Janice will be dearly missed and will be forever in our hearts.

Janice is survived by her husband, Jack; two sons, Jay Peterson and his wife Paula of Lubbock, and Jerry Peterson and his wife Patricia of Austin; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Joyce Horan and Joanne Carney, as well as her grandson, Matthew Peterson.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Janice’s family has asked that anyone who wishes to honor her, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 3511 10th Street, Lubbock, TX 79415.
