Jesus Olivas Anaya

Jesus Olivas Anaya, beloved husband, father, proud United States Military veteran and longtime member of the Lubbock community, passed peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 78, after an extended battle with cancer.

Jesus was born in a small Texas town and worked hard at a cotton gin. After graduating Lamesa High School, he answered the call of duty, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of Corporal. This service helped forge the courage and resilience he carried throughout his life.

He married Julie Rodriguez in 1973 and spent 52 happy years with her, until his passing.

Following his military service, Jesus worked at Southwest Specialty for several years before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own demolition and dirt service company, Ace Dirt Works. For 20 years, he helped sculpt the landscape of the community he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Anaya, daughter Anjela Anaya and husband Gilberto Gonzalez, sons Alejos Anaya and Adrian Anaya; grandchildren Jack Vescovi, Phoenix Gonzalez and Ryder Gonzalez; brothers Ramon Anaya and wife Carolina, Eusebio Anaya, Jr. and wife Becky; and beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and longtime friends.

He is preceded in death by brothers Toby, Eusebio, Pedro, Reynaldo, Larry and David; and sisters Irene Flores, Lupe Valencia, Petra Valencia and Araseli Valencia.

His spirit of adventure and love of the open road led him to a shiny new car every few years. He was a man of unyielding charm and big personality, easy to talk to and endlessly charismatic. He was also known for his booming, gravelly voice that made his stories come to life. He reveled in playing guitar and singing, filling the room with melodies that echoed his vibrant spirit. He loved traditional Mexican music, Norteño and Mariachi, good ol' rock n' roll, as well as deer hunting and fishing. He enjoyed camaraderie with friends, and embarking on adventures. These moments were not just social gatherings, but heartfelt connections and moments of shared joy.

At home, he found his greatest happiness, cherishing time with his beloved wife and precocious grandchildren.
