Jim Bertram

James Edward (Jim) Bertram, a cherished member of the Lubbock community, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 1, 1941, in Skidmore, Texas, Jim led a life marked by service, adventure, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. A 1966 graduate of Texas Tech University, Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Park Administration before embarking upon a distinguished career that spanned 31 years as the Director of City Planning for the City of Lubbock. In 2002, he was recognized as a distinguished alumni of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jim found contentment enjoying camping and fishing trips, adventures to Disneyland, and festive holiday celebrations. He had an adventurous spirit that extended to traveling abroad, where he discovered new cultures and forged treasured memories. Jim was also a man of many interests. He enjoyed sailing, landscaping, sketching and watercolor, as well as cheering on his favorite football teams.

A man of deep conviction and service, Jim took great pride in his involvement with various boards, including the Ransom Canyon Memorial Chapel, Lubbock State Supported Living Center, Sunrise Canyon, and High Point Village. His commitment to community service extended further as he was a member of the Rotary Club and current member of Sunset Church of Christ.

Jim married Glenda Taylor on December 21, 1963. Survivors to their marriage include Taylor Davis and husband Tim of Lubbock, and Kevin Bertram and wife Leah of Corpus Christi; grandson, Stephen Stewart and wife Vanessa, along with their children, Tobin and Kirsten. He was preceded in death by Glenda in August 2014 and son, Christopher in 2007.

Jim is survived by his second wife, Charlotte (Wheeler) Bertram, whom he married on September 22, 2017, and her family, Daniel and Kim Wheeler, Andrew Wheeler, Nathan and Brandy Wheeler, Rebekah and Byron Robertson, as well as twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Bobbi and Joe Wise, Dick and Kathy Bertram, and Betty and Scott Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway. Services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, November 21, 2025, at Sunset Church of Christ with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
