Jo Ann "JoJo" Peña

November 6, 1969 — June 13, 2025

Lubbock

Jo Ann “JoJo” Peña, a cherished hairstylist and beloved matriarch, was born on November 6, 1969, in Brownfield, Texas. She departed this world on June 13, 2025, at her home, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and a community forever altered by her kindness.

JoJo dedicated over three decades of her life to the art of cosmetology, her skilled hands touching the lives of many. She began her journey after graduating from Meadow High School in 1989 and attending cosmetology school at South Plains College. For years, she graced the halls of Pro Cuts and Super Cuts before relocating to Arizona, where she lent her talents to Smart Styles. Eventually, her path led her back to Lubbock, at which point she embraced her role at Great Clips. JoJo, known affectionately as the “10-minute hair cut lady,” garnered deep affection from both clients and colleagues alike, as her motherly love transcended the salon chair, earning her the endearing nickname “Momma Jo.”

Beyond her vocation, JoJo had a spirited passion for music, often attending performances by her cousins in the band Los Hermanos Peña, witnessing their artistry with unwavering pride. Her loyalty extended beyond music into the realm of sports, where she was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Arizona Cardinals, and the San Antonio Spurs, demonstrating her unwavering spirit and enthusiasm.

Though she touched countless lives, JoJo’s greatest treasures were her family. She leaves behind her children, Cordero Tapia, who is married to Alyssa, and Jose Angel Tapia, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Mia Almanza and Natalia Tapia. She is survived by her siblings, Florinda Peña, Raymon Peña, and Silverio “Chevy” Peña, all of whom carry forward the love and memories she shared.

JoJo is preceded in death by both parents Consuelo Peña and Ramon Peña, siblings Julia P. Garza and Joe Michael Peña.

A memorial service honoring her remarkable life will be held on June 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Difference Maker's Fellowship in Lubbock, Texas. Those who were touched by JoJo's spirit are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life lived with passion, sincerity, and love.
