Joan Adams

April 30, 1931 — March 26, 2022

Norma Joan Adams was born April 30, 1931 in Plainview, TX to Jewel and Horace Masten. She was a farmer's daughter who spent her early years helping on the family farm. She moved to Lubbock when she was 24 years old. She then began working at a mortgage company where she soon met the love of her life. Richard Adams spotted her at the water fountain and quickly asked her out on a date. Though she was already dating another young man, Richard likes to say that "he shot the other guy out of the saddle" and won her over! They married on November 9, 1956 and started a family soon thereafter. They lived in Lubbock the majority of their lives and are longtime members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Joan passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2022 surrounded by a multitude of her loving family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard, and her daughter, Ricka Adams Brown and husband, Wendell "Scooter" Brown; son Gregory Adams and wife, Lori Adams; four grandsons Adam Brown, Austin Brown and wife Megan, Alexander Brown and wife Brooke, Andrew Brown, as well as six great-grandchildren Ansley, Stetson, Trinity, Colton, Sterling and Summit. She is also survived by her precious niece and best friend, Jeannie Ritter and husband, David; great nieces Rashael Shofner and husband, Shawn; Dava Denson and husband, Jake, as well as great-great nieces and nephews Parker, Aubrey, Addie, Gage and Tanner.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the very caring team of Hospice of Lubbock who gave her the best possible quality of life during the last six months. We want to personally thank her dedicated team of caregivers: Chloe, Ashley and Serena. If you would like to make a donation in Joan's name, the family has designated the following organizations: First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lubbock and Hospice of Lubbock.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 9-11am at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Celebration of Life service will follow at 11am at the church with a graveside service to be held at 2:30pm at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery in Plainview. The service will be livestreamed on the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church website.
