Joe Dee Ellis, 84, of Lubbock, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Joe was born on December 17, 1938, in Erick, Beckham County, Oklahoma, to the late Virgil Thomas Ellis, Sr. and Cora Eunice (Bray) Ellis.
Joe attended Ocina Schools in Oklahoma, graduating with the senior class of 1957. He then attended Sayre Junior College in Sayre, Oklahoma where he obtained his Associates Degree. Joe worked as a machinist for Simmons Pumps Corporation for 32 years, before retiring in December of 1999.
Joe met Sandra Davis, and they were married on September 10, 1971, in Hale Center, Texas. He loved to fish, listen to classical music, and watch shoot-em-up movies. He was also known to be a collector of items and treasures by dumpster diving. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.
Joe leaves behind his beloved wife, Sandra; two sons, Darrell Ellis and his wife Julie Ross-Ellis of Chesapeake, Virginia and James Ellis of Lubbock; one sister, Dolores Sarah of Amarillo; three grandchildren and three bonus grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene Ellis, Virgil Ellis, Jr., and Earl Ellis; three sisters, Pauline Bennett, Faye Smith and Inez McKinley.
At this time, no services have been planned. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
