John Simpson Mckaughan, Jr.

John Simpson McKaughan, Jr., 95, of Lubbock, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 14, 2022.  He was born on August 14, 1927, in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas, to the late John Simpson McKaughan, Sr. and Virginia Valverde (Stevens) McKaughan.

He attended and graduated from Tahoka High School.  After graduation, he attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in commercial art.  Following his education at Texas Tech, he attended Columbia University in New York for 2 years.

Mr. McKaughan was the art director for Braniff Airlines for 20 years, before retiring.

Survivors include two close friends, David Wirz of Lubbock and Linda Rose of Arlington, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
