Jose "Joe" Guadalupe Rios passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 10, 1955, in Cameron County, Texas, to Pedro Rios and Maria Vicenta Garcia. At the age of seven, Joe moved with his family to Lubbock, Texas, where he resided for most of his life. He attended Estacado High School and went on to earn his certificate in Automotive Technology in June 1989.
Joe had a passion for working on cars and was always known as the neighborhood mechanic who was eager to lend a helping hand. An avid sports fan, he devotedly backed the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech football-and made sure anyone who spoke ill of his teams knew where the door was. When he wasn't watching football, Joe cherished spending time with his grandchildren, firing up the grill for a BBQ, and surrounding himself with family.
Joe is survived by his son, Jaime Rios; his brother, Homer Rios; his sisters, Maria Nino and Sylvia Cooley; his step-sons, James Elvis Duffy and Zachery Duffy; as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria, and his brothers, Juan Rios, Pedro Rios, and Magin Rios.
Joe will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind soul with a big heart who brought joy, generosity, and laughter to everyone who knew him.
