It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Joe Porras Jr., a cherished member of the Lubbock community, who departed this life on February 3, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 21, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, Jose was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and educator whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
Joe earned his Bachelor's Degree and dedicated his career to education as a teacher within the Lubbock Independent School District, where he positively influenced the lives of countless students before his retirement. He was known for his passion for learning and his unwavering commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for all those he taught: Further exemplified by his time as a little league baseball coach, Special Olympic coach and head usher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna Larez Porras, and their three children: Matthew Porras, Alexis Porras, and Kyle (Teresa) Porras. Grandchildren: Jaydon, Joslynn, Jaylyn, Buddy, Nexi, Kyrie, and Kamron. Siblings: Irene (Tony) Rios, Gloria Porras, Arturo (Aurora) Porras and Gloria (Frank) Moore. He was an uncle to several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Jose was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Porras and Consuelo Gonzales-Porras.
In honor of Joe's life and contributions, funeral services will be held on February 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 10805 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX 79423. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing prior to the service on February 9, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM, followed by a Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM and Moments of Reflection from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Venue on Broadway 2210 Broadway St. Lubbock, TX 70401.
Joe Porras Jr. will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and love for his community and family. He leaves a lasting legacy of compassion and service in the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
