It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Joe Porras Jr., a cherished member of the Lubbock community, who departed this life on February 3, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 21, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, Jose was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and educator whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
Joe earned his Bachelor's Degree and dedicated his career to education as a teacher within the Lubbock Independent School District, where he positively influenced the lives of countless students before his retirement. He was known for his passion for learning and his unwavering commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for all those he taught: Further exemplified by his time as a little league baseball coach, Director of Special Olympics and head usher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna Larez, and their three children: Matthew Porras, Alexis Porras, and Kyle Porras. Grandchildren: Jaydon Porras, Joslynn Albiar, Jaylyn Albiar, Buddy Albiar. Siblings: Irene Rios, Gloria Porras, and Arturo Porras
In honor of Joe's life and contributions, funeral services will be held on February 10th, 2026 at11;00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 10805 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX 79423. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing prior to the service On February 9th. 2026 from 4:00 PM- 6:30 PM, followed by a Rosay beginning at6:30 PM at the Venue on Broadway 2210 Broadway ST. Lubbock, TX 70401.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Porras and Consuelo Gonzales-Porras
Joe Porras Jr. will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community. He leaves a lasting legacy of compassion and service in the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
