Judy Wallker, 79, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Judy was born on May 15, 1945, in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, to the late Samuel Arthur Bacon and Mary Ola (Smithson) Bacon.
Judy attended Abilene Christian School and graduated in 1963. She then studied Education and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Abilene Christian College (ACC) in 1967. She taught elementary school education at Cotulla ISD (Cotulla, TX) and then stayed at home to raise her family. Judy spent a few years in private business before transitioning back to teaching. She continued teaching elementary at Kingsville ISD (Kingsville, TX), Cotulla ISD, (Cotulla, TX), Rochester ISD (Rochester, Texas), Grady ISD (Lenorah, TX) and Lorenzo ISD (Lorenzo, TX) before retiring in 2012.
Judy met Tom Walker while attending ACC and they were united in marriage on August 27, 1966, in Robstown, Texas. Out of this union they were blessed with three children: Morgen, Lafaun and Vanessa. Judy’s children have abounding memories of growing up in a God-honoring home surrounded by laughter, unconditional love, and togetherness. They were taught to love, serve, and trust the Lord by their parents’ examples. They remember their mother as a devoted wife, a patient and loving mother, and a woman as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
Judy loved sewing, reading, and working in her garden. She was an excellent cook and prepared delicious meals for her family, always ensuring every person was filled with her food and love. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing games, and being active with her church. She delighted in her grandchildren and was adored by them. “J”, as she was called, symbolized more than a grandmother, but a nurturing presence that had no limit. Judy was a constant bright light and always displayed a spirit of servitude. She was helpful and kind, her life a demonstration of her faith and conviction. She has been a member of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ for the last 13 years.
She spent several years as a loving caretaker to her husband, Tom, and was unwavering in her dedication to him. After his recent passing, she found much strength in scripture and joy in the promises of God to come. Judy loved to share this good news with all.
Those left to honor her memories include one son, Morgen Walker, daughter-in-law Angelia, and two grandsons Caleb and Gabe of Plano; two daughters: Lafaun Gilman, son-in-law Jason, three granddaughters Brittany, Sawyer, and Walker of Abilene and Vanessa Bolyard, son-in-law Casey, three grandsons Ayden, Jax, and Sam of Lubbock. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom Walker on January 19, 2025. Also preceded in death was an infant baby brother, Samuel Arthur Bacon, Jr.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the auditorium of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ, 1701 Quaker Avenue in Lubbock. David Langford will be the officiant. Memorial services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
