Julia Rodriguez Martinez, a woman whose kindness and humble spirit touched the hearts of many, passed away on April 22, 2026, in Lubbock, TX. She was born on January 28, 1938, in Benavides, TX, and moved to Lubbock at a young age, where she later met her loving husband, Lorenzo C. Martinez of 61 years. The two were married on December 18, 1952, and built a life together rooted in love and family until his passing on April 14, 2015.
Julia’s life was a beautiful journey marked by warmth, laughter, and a deep love for her family. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Grace and her faith was central to her life, shaping the kindness and warmth she shared so freely with others.
She will be remembered for her colorful personality and the quiet joy she brought to everyday moments. Known for wearing a different cowboy hat with every outfit, she carried a sense of style that reflected her individuality and spirit. She smiled often, embodying a beauty that radiated from within. With a gentle nature and an open heart, she never met a stranger. Everyone who crossed her path felt the comfort of her genuine warmth.
She had a playful and spirited love for life. Julia found happiness in simple pleasures, spending time at flea markets, playing bingo, strumming her guitar, and singing songs that brought people together. One of her greatest joys was sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with her best friend of 65 years, Benita Deleon, a bond built on decades of laughter, loyalty, and shared memories.
Julia’s love and dedication extended deeply into her family. She is survived by her children, David Martinez, Julie (Fred) Todd, Lorenzo (Delia) Martinez Jr., and Linda (Lonnie) Morin and brother Agripin Rodriguez Jr., and sisters Margaret Reyes and LaLa Tamez. Her legacy further lives on in her beloved grandchildren, Smokey, Delshan, Lonnie, Jody, Lorenzo, Zachary, Esten, Jewels, Brittany, and Jodeci, and the joyous presence of her great-grandchildren Tristan, Tobias, Serenitie, Journi, Raul Jr., Marina, Alani, and Daenerys. Though she now rests in eternal peace, the memory of her beautiful soul continues through each one of them.
Julia’s family also lovingly remembers those who have gone before her, her husband Lorenzo C. Martinez, her son Jody Martinez, her granddaughter Jacinta Martinez, as well as her father Agripan Rodriguez and mother Juanita Ramirez. She was also predeceased by her siblings Alicia Contreras, Raul Rodriguez, Antonia Silva, Jose Rodriguez, and Bebe Garza.
The family will gather to honor Julia’s remarkable life with a visitation on April 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas. This will be followed by a Rosary service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on May 1, 2026 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lubbock to celebrate her enduring spirit and the profound impact she has left on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Julia Rodriguez Martinez’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and an unyielding joy for life. Her smile, her songs, and her cowboy hats will remain forever etched in the hearts of all who loved her. While she has departed from this world, the warmth of her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those she leaves behind.
