Kenneth Scott Carter, age 55, passed away in Lubbock, Texas on January 10, 2026.
Scott was born on May 2, 1970, in Lubbock, where he spent his life bringing joy to others. For 40 years, Scott shared his love of chocolates, coffee, teas, and unique collectibles with the community through his beloved store, Otto’s Granary in Lubbock.
Scott lived the belief that every day was a good day and loved nothing more than making the people around him happy. He adored his puppy dogs, Bella, Lady Godiva, Saint Nicholas, Christmas Coco and Nikko, who were constant sources of love and companionship. Christmas was not just a holiday for Scott - he lived the Christmas spirit year-round. He was also passionate about painting, having shared this love with his mother and grandmother, Kay. And you could not find a bigger Texas Tech fan.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Patricia Carter of Lubbock who owned and operated the El Chico's restaurants in Lubbock for 50 years; grandparents Otto and Vearl Carter of Tahoka, TX; grandparents Elam and Kay Hoffman of Fort Smith, AR; paternal aunt Joy Lindley, of Ropesville, and special maternal great-aunts Joye Young and Martie Cuellar of Dallas.
Scott is survived by his maternal uncle, Danny (Becky) Hammond of Arkoma, OK and paternal uncle Ike (Margaret) Carter of Granbury, TX.
Also surviving Scott are his first cousins, Michele (James) Branham of Greenwood, AR; Daniel Hammond of Arkoma, OK, Lisa (Jeff) Jennings of Granbury; Chris (Betty) Carter of Allen; Gary (Marcia) Carter of Lorenzo; Dee (Julie) Lindley of Spring; and Teresa Cooper of Rockwall; as well as many second and third cousins in Texas, Colorado, and Arkansas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tahoka Cemetery on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cavalier Rescue USA, 6400 N. Paseo Tamayo, Tucson, AZ 85750 (cavalierrescueusa.org)..
