Larry Cornell Evans

Larry Cornell Evans, a man whose life was a tapestry woven with unwavering honor, boundless love, and an indomitable spirit, passed away on May 15, 2026, in Lubbock. Born on January 12, 1979, Larry’s journey was defined by his steadfast dedication—to family, to country, and to the passions that gave his vibrant soul flight. Graduating from Hoover High School in 1997, Larry soon answered the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Navy. Over a distinguished 20-year career, he rose to the rank of Fire Controlman Chief Petty Officer, proudly serving his country during the Iraq War. His roles were as diverse as they were vital: mastering the precision of fire control systems, shaping marksmen as a Small Arms Instructor, and maintaining discipline and guidance as a Correctional Custody Specialist and Counselor. Throughout his service, Larry exemplified the very essence of a committed sailor—resilient, meticulous, and fiercely loyal.

Beyond the uniform and commendations was a man with a rich inner world and an unmistakable zest for life. He loved the open road, finding freedom on his motorcycle and joy riding dirt bikes across the desert expanses. Baseball was a cherished pastime, both as a player and devoted fan, alongside the excitement of cheering on his beloved San Francisco 49ers. Skilled with his hands and gifted with mechanical talent, Larry was known as the one who could fix almost anything, bringing broken objects—and often broken moments—back to life with patience and care. He also possessed a creative spirit, expressing himself through music and rap with wit and authenticity.

Larry’s personality was a remarkable blend of humor, creativity, honesty, and strength. He was deeply admired not only for what he accomplished, but for the way he cared for those around him. One of his proudest accomplishments was marrying his sweetheart, Roshena Emerson Evans, on September 4, 1998, in Great Lakes, shortly after completing naval boot camp. Together, they built a family rooted in enduring love, resilience, and devotion. Larry was a proud and devoted father who loved his sons wholeheartedly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Roshena Evans; his sons, Daijon Evans and Larry Evans Jr.; his siblings, Jasmine Evans, Rayon Coleman, and Christian Coleman; and his parents, Patrick Evans and Sonya Laquise Evans. He also leaves behind cherished friends Rick and Dan, whose steadfast friendship and support meant so much throughout his life.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Khalil Evans; his grandmother, Florence Evans; and his uncle, Patrick Evans, whose memories remained forever close to his heart.

In remembering Larry Cornell Evans, we celebrate a man who lived courageously, loved deeply, and served honorably. His legacy of strength, loyalty, humor, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Larry will receive military honors and be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery.
