Larry Scrivener

November 19, 1954 — November 21, 2025

Lubbock

Larry Max Scrivener, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 71. He was born on November 19, 1954 in Odessa, Texas and at the age of 6 moved with his family to Houston, Texas. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School in 1973 where he was described by his teachers as clever and charming. He joked about how he crammed four years of college into 5 with a brief enrollment in Sam Houston State University followed by San Marcos State University then University of Texas where he and a friend successfully “walked on” to the baseball team. He was never a starter and subsequently transferred to Texas Tech University where he played second base.

In Lubbock he met his wife, Karyn, and they were married in May 1979. After a year they moved to Austin, Texas where they later welcomed two children, Jacquelyn and Stuart. His career path involved sales and this is where he found his niche. He had a natural ability to talk to anyone, and his clients invariably found him engaging and entertaining. In addition to his professional life, Larry had a keen interest in fitness and was disciplined throughout his life about running and lifting weights. He also loved landscaping and had the proverbial “green thumb”. Taking care of the yard was his way to relax.

Larry’s faith was always a very important part of his and his family’s life. He joined the Catholic Church in 1991 and had his children baptized and confirmed in the faith.

He retained a deep connection with Texas Tech University and enjoyed season tickets to football, basketball, and baseball. Following the deaths of his parents he eventually returned to Lubbock where he had so many fond memories.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Karyn, with whom he shared more than 46 years of marriage, and his two children, Jacquelyn Scrivener and Stuart Scrivener and sister Lee Scrivener Colvin.

Larry was preceded in death by his father A.L. “Pat” Scrivener in 2002, Mary “Kate” Scrivener in 2003, and brother Arthur “Art” Scrivener in 2024.
